Murali Vijay was not part of India‘s slightly embarrassing limited overs campaign against South Africa but come the Tests he will be a vital part of the proceedings if fitness permits. India will attempt to redeem pride in the Test series after losing both the One-Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 Internationals (T20I) series and if they are to save face in the series at home, Vijay will have to retain the form he has maintained since the India’s tour of South Africa in 2013-14. Vijay recalls that series as his moment of self-realisation and an upward curve in confidence. ALSO READ: Murali Vijay targets strong performance against South Africa

“It was the 39 runs in the Johannesburg Test that turned things around for me,” Vijay revealed in a chat with BCCI.TV. “I could feel that I was batting well. That’s what gave me confidence going into the Durban Test. I was under the pump and really wanted to come good. The ball was reversing in Durban and it helped that I play a lot of reverse swing back home at the domestic level,” Vijay explained.

“It has been a great journey for me – the last one and a half year. But the best of me is yet to come,” Vijay said with a sense of confidence. In his most recent outing against Sri Lanka he scored 82 in the second innings of the second Test but fell prey to injury in the third Test. He expressed confidence that he can be fully fit for the matches against South Africa. “I am getting better. I should be fully fit,” said Vijay.
