Nepal and Netherlands took on against each other at VRA Cricket Ground, Netherlands ended in a nail-Biting contest as visitors Nepal went out to pull a thriller. batting first Nepal put of 217 for 9 in 50 overs riding on a blistering knock of 84 runs from Nepal’s captain Paras Khadka. Paras got support from Gyanendra Malla who scored 39 and Sagar Pun who scored 45. Khadka’s knock was one of his best as the captain went on to score some delightful shots all over the ground. He started off his innings slowly as Nepal had lost 2 wickets in quick successions. Eventually when the captain settled into strides he became quite impossible to control. Following the target of 218, Netherlands started off quite well but lots the track eventually. Just when things looked gloom for the hosts, Roelof van der Merwe along with Max O’Dowd helped the team out of tight spot. van der Merwe went onto score his half-century while O’Dowd scored useful 35. This was the time when things looked like turning towards Netherlands way but, Nepal struck again and got rid of both these batsmen one-by-one.
Having lost two settled batsman, Nepal again lost their grip as Tim Gruijters and Timm van der Gugten again lifted the hosts falling innings as they went on to score 44 and 36 respectively. It was during this time that Nepal bowling came hard and got both batsman out which also initiated Netherlands batting downfall.
With the required run-rate already climbing Netherlands tail started swinging their bats in every way possible, things just got worse from bad as hosts kept on tumbling slowly on regular intervals. Sompal Kami, Paras Khadka and Basant Regmi got 2 wickets each while Michael Rippon from Netherlands got 4 wickets.
In the end Nepal completed a comprehensive win of 19 runs which gave them vital 2 points in the league and Nepal captain Paras Khadka was adjudged Man of the Matchfor his score of 84 and figures of 2 for 19 in six overs in bowling.
Netherlands was the only side to not being defeated in the tournament. This is the fourth division of the cricket league, where the winner of the tournament will progress to the next level. Total of eight teams are participating in this 50-over contest, which include Netherlands, Scotland, Kenya to name a few.
