The AB de Villiers-led South Africa side were edged out by New Zealand in an intense and emotional battle for a berth in the finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Brendon McCullum’s side were given a grand platform to chase the target of 298 in 43 overs by the man himself. McCullum smashed a quickfire fifty.

But a few wickets after that put South Africa right back in the game. Morne Morkel was exceptional in his display, Tahir bowled with great spirit too. Grant Elliott and Corey Anderson ultimately stitched a match-defining partnership that took the Blackcaps to the brink of victory.

But when Morkel struck again to dismiss Anderson the match was again brought in the balance. With 12 needed of the last over, Vettori hit a four and gave Elliott strike and after a few nerve wrenching moments including a dropped catch, Elliott struck a six to seal a famous victory. The South Africans were in tears with the result.
