New Zealand were 107 for seven against Sri Lanka when rain interrupted proceedings at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Sooriyawewa, Hambantota on Saturday.

James Fanklin was unbeaten on 17, while Jeevan Mendis had just struck to dismiss Andrew Ellis in the 30th over, when the rains started pouruing.

New Zealand, who were asked to bat first, were 107 for seven from 29.2 overs.

Sri Lanka bowlers produced an inspired bowling show to keep the Kiwis under control, as none of the tourists’ batsmen managed to get a big score.

Brendon McCullum top-scored with 30, while middle-order batsman Kane Williamson managed only 21 off 29 balls.

Jeevan Mendis was the chief tormentor of the New Zealand side, taking three wickets for 10 runs.
