Australia ruled most parts of Day 3 against New Zealand in the second Test at Christchurch attaining a lead of 14 runs by the end of play. Starting the Day 2 on 363 for 4 ended their innings on 505 gaining a lead of 135 runs. Adam Voges and Nathan Lyon played well from the start, with Voges getting on to his fourth Test half-century making 51* before lunch. Thus also surpassing the great Sir Don Bradman’s average of 99.94. Nathan Lyon was the only wicket to fall in first session. Coming from lunch New Zealand’s Neil Wagner wrecked havoc on the Australian batting by picking as many as four the five wickets to fall. Australia lost five wickets for just 41 runs, starting with Voges on 60 by Wagner. He continued picking wickets in a rush achieving his career best figures of 6 for 103. Martin Guptill fell without scoring as New Zealand set out after Australia’s 135-run first-innings lead. James Pattison picking his first of the three wickets. His other wickets included Tom Latham for 39 and Henry Nicholls for 2, ending day with figures of 3 for 29. Captain Brendon McCullum could be revive the New Zealand innings this time around getting out to Josh Hazlewood for 25 off 27 balls. New Zealand were survived by Kane Williamson on 45* and Corey Anderson on 9* being placed at 121 for 4 still trailing Australia by 14 runs.
