Good morning ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Day 4 of the second Test match between New Zealand and England. After a wait of almost 9 months, has English skipper Joe Root got his team back into the contest by scoring a ton? With the weather looking pretty bleak for Day 5, one would assume that the visitors have done enough as they trail the Kiwis by 106 runs. After being under the pump for the first 2 days, England applied themselves really well on Day 3 as Rory Burns and Joe Root both got to their respective tons. The Kiwis made a mini-comeback in the third session by taking 3 wickets and pushing England on the back foot again. With half the English side back in the hut and a new man at the crease, can the Kiwis enforce a collapse? All the updates coming up!

    … Day 4, Session 1 …

  • 10:28 AM IST

So, that will be it from Day 3. Rain has cut short the play on 2 out of the 3 days but we will be hoping that we get 2 uninterrupted days of play from here on in. Do join us at 1030 local (2130 GMT, Previous day) as there will be half an hour early start again to make up for the lost overs. You can now switch over to catch all the updates from the Adelaide Test where Pakistan are under the pump. Cheers!

In the third session, the Kiwi bowlers came back strongly rather than getting petered out. First they got rid of the dangerous Ben Stokes and then debutant Zak Crawley also followed him soon. The thorn for New Zealand heading into Day 4 will be the English skipper who is still at the crease and will be looking to get his team as close as he can to the hosts’ total (trailing by 106 runs).

Yet another absorbing day of Test cricket! After seeing New Zealand’s dominance on the first two days, the picture changed on Day 3. England made a roaring comeback through the partnership between Joe Root and Rory Burns. The pair saw off the entire morning session safely and then followed the same for most parts of the afternoon as well. They raised a 177-run stand and Burns notched up his century before getting run out towards the end of the second session.

DRINKS! So, after two sessions completely dominated by the Englishmen, the Kiwis have staged half a comeback by sending Stokes and debutant Crawley back to the pavilion. The Kiwis still possess a lead of 109 runs but with Root still out in the middle, it is in danger of being extinguished. The New Zealand bowlers need to keep on doing the good work and pile on the pressure on the lower order batters now with Root looking well set.
