Pitch report – Mark Richardson is down for the pitch report. The forecast for the afternoon is rain and serious rain. There has not been enough sunshine to make serious cracks and dry out the surface. States that the odd one has stayed low but the track is still very good for batting.

Talking about the match, New Zealand are just 5 behind and have 8 wickets in hand. In an extremely hypothetical situation, the Brits can try and bowl New Zealand out under a lead of 100 and then chase it down. But do they have the time?

Not the best of days to play cricket, with heavy clouds welcoming us. More clouds are expected on the way and the forecast for the afternoon is for rain and for serious rain.

  • 2:56 AM IST

Welcome, welcome, all come! 2-0, 1-0 or 1-1? The first and third results look highly unlikely given that there is rain scheduled around Lunch. But can England pick up a few wickets and gain some confidence ahead of the South African tour? The final day of the series beckons.

    … THE FINAL DAY …

  • 11:08 AM IST

So how do we look at Day 5? If we get a full day’s play, anything can happen. England then become favourites to produce a result if anyone can, with New Zealand still trailing by 5 and 2 down, but with fickle weather forecast, a draw might be the most realistic thing emerging. The English bowlers look tired and secretly would be hoping that they get some rest. Or at least, conditions in their favour, wherein they can nip out batsmen quickly. Join us at 10.30 am local (2130 GMT, previous night) for all the action from the final day of this match and series. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!

Once the Kiwis conceded a lead of 101, victory for them was more or less thrown out of the window. Given that the forecast for Tuesday is not very promising, England needed to strike as many times as they could before that lead was erased and they did. Both the Kiwi openers were dismissed inside 9 overs and it seemed like more were going to come but the old warhorses, Williamson and Taylor have held fort amidst a 68-run stand.

Excellent day for England, excellent day for Joe Root. He maintained his form since last night, not throwing it away and carrying on and on. In Graham Gooch’s words, his ‘daddy hundred’ helped his side gain a lead of 101. Do not forget Ollie Pope who was excellent for his 75. Wagner did get 5 wickets but those were what we call ‘cheap scalps’ as the English batsmen just threw their bats at everything.

Ben Stokes hurries across to take his cap from umpire Kumara Dharmasena, hoping that there will be one more over but the answer is no. That will be STUMPS ON DAY 4. An intriguing day’s play, which had some action, a little bit of thrill and depending on the weather on Tuesday, we might still get a result.
