New Zealand dominated the Day Three proceedings with Williamson and Jeet Raval (88) scoring runs easily in the first two sessions. Both constructed 190-run stand for the second wicket, putting their side in command for the majority of the third day. But South Africa pacers bounced back towards the ending stages, getting three crucial wickets of Raval, Neil Broom (12) and Henry Nicholls (0) to leave the game in the balance. Morne Morkel and Kagiso Rabada shared 2 wickets each to keep South Africa well in contention in this last Test of the three-game series.
The first session of Day Four will be very crucial for both teams. South Africa would be hoping to get quick wickets, particularly of Williamson. The Kiwi skipper’s wicket in the first hour can pull the game well in favour for South Africa. But the visitors will still be aware of the incoming batsmen. New Zealand still have BJ Watling, Colin de Grandhomme at their service who have the capacity to make South Africa bowlers toil.
On the other hand, if Williamson along with nightwatchman Mitchell Santner (13*) bat out the first session, managing to score at least 70-80 runs, they will most likely dominate the Day Four proceedings. Also with the Watling and de Grandhomme in the dressing room, the hosts would be hoping to emulate the same batting performance as they did on Day Three.
