Sri Lanka batsmen, Mahela Jayawardene and Lahiru Thirimane put up a 50-run stand for the fifth wicket against New Zealand during the first of the seven-match ODI series at the Hagley Oval in Chrsitchurch on Sunday. Jayawardene contributed 36 while Thirimane contributed 17 in the stand.

Sri Lanka had earlier won the toss and elected to bat first as they take on New Zealand in the final ODI series before the ICC World Cup from February in Australia and New Zealand. Currently Sri Lanka’s score reads 132 for the loss of four wickets with 35 overs being bowled so far.
