Sri Lanka batsman, Mahela Jayawardene scored his 77th half-century in ODIs against New Zealand during the first of the seven-match ODI series at the Hagley Oval in Chrsitchurch on Sunday. His half-century came off 64 deliveries including five boundaries with a strike rate of 33.41.

His last half-century came in November last year against England at Colombo when he scored an unbeaten 77. Currently, he is batting along with his partner, Lahiru Thirimane who is batting on 12 off 27 as Sri Lanka’s score reads 114 for the loss of four after winning the toss and electing to bat first. This would also be his first half-century of the year in his first match of the year.
