Wonderful bowling by Rangana Herath and Suranga Lakmal brought Sri Lanka back in the game against New Zealand at at Christchurch. After the wicket of Brendon McCullum in the 16th over, the run rate has slowed down. New batsman Kane Williamson was dropped first ball by Kumar Sangakkara in the bowling of Lakmal. Herath also bowled very tightly and had a few close calls. Finally Lakmal got rid of Martin Guptill for 49. This time Sangakkara didn’t miss the chance. It was a cold and windy morning at Christchurch and Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Mathews won and important toss and as expected he invited New Zealand to bat first. Lasith Malinga, who was injured prior to the World Cup and missed quite few matches, was included in the playing eleven of Sri Lanka for this opening encounter. The team management have decide to drop Thisara Perera and Dinesh Chandimal.
