KL Rahul, who replaced Rishabh Pant in the fourth T20I of Nidahas Trophy 2018, added an unwanted record to his name. He became the first Indian batsman to be dismissed hit wicket in T20Is. He achieved this feat against Sri Lanka on Monday. Rahul went deep in his crease while facing the delivery of Jeevan Mendis, who was bowling his second over of the innings. In the process, he accidentally dislodged the bails with his right foot. Rahul scored 17-ball 18 in a rain-delayed match. This was Rahul s first match in the shortest format since his last match against Sri Lanka in December. He had scored 61, 89, 4 in the three-match series then. Rahul was part of the T20I squad against South Africa but was not included in the XI.

Rahul joined an elite list that comprises of cricketers names like AB de Villiers, Dinesh Chandimal, Misbah-ul-Haq and Mohammad Hafeez. India s first cricketer to be dismissed hit wicket in Tests was Lala Amarnath in 1949. In ODIs, it was Nayan Mongia in 1995.

After Rahul s wicket, India were brought down to 85 for 4. Manish Pandey and Dinesh Karthik once again repaired the damage and saw India home.
