Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were set to host Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru as the first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 after it’s week-long suspension because of tensions at border between India and Pakistan. However, the first match after the tournament began did not end up with an exciting clash, as the match ended without even the toss being held.

It had started raining before the toss was held, and it kept consistently pouring throughout the evening. Though there were a couple of times when the officials and referees had come out to the field in order to discuss, raining hopes in the fans and all the supporters, the weather had other plans as every time the hopes increased, the rain then started pouring yet again.

The overs soon started getting cut down, and the match was getting short by every minute. Eventually, the officials had decided that too much time had passed, and they officially announced that the match had to be abandoned.

This outcome has ended with both the teams getting a point each- meaning RCB has moved a step closer to the IPL playoffs, whereas KKR have been knocked out of the race.

Royal Challengers now have 17 points from 12 matches, and a win from their remaining two games will be enough for them to seal a berth in the playoffs. KKR now have 11 points from 13 matches and it is impossible for them to enter the knockouts even if they win their final league game against Hyderabad to increase their tally to 15 points.
