Digvesh Rathi had a spectacular outing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, and he finished their campaign as the top wicket-taker for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)- with 14 wickets to his name in 13 matches. Even though he made countless number of headlines with his impressive bowling, he also faced heavy criticism for his ‘notebook celebration’ throughout the whole season.
Digvesh Rathi was fined by BCCI during IPL 2025:
The ‘notebook celebrations’ by Digvesh Rathi resulted in him getting hefty amounts of fine by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He was fined three times throughout the tournament. He was even suspended for one match after he had an on-field argument with Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Abhishek Sharma.
Yograj Singh slammed BCCI:
Reflecting on these fines by the BCCI, Yograj Singh- father of Yuvraj Singh- slammed the board and he implemented that they handled the situation in a wrong way, even labelling the fines as ‘nonsense‘.
“Come on man, don’t fine them. It’s okay, you are still friends with the bowlers. Everybody is not the same. Emotions go, forgive them. Obviously, at the end of the day, you’re friends, if you say sorry, the matter is over. Have a big heart and don’t get into these petty things. What is this nonsense going on, fining kids,” Yograj said on InsideSport.
Apart from his controversial celebrations, it did not take long for Digvesh Rathi to become one of the most important players in the squad. The 25-year-old spinner did not only pick up wickets, but was also fairly economical throughout the season.
Despite the valiant efforts by Digvesh, it all vent in vain as LSG failed to qualify for the playoffs. The team had 12 points from 14 matches, and got knocked out with finishing on the seventh spot at the IPL standings.
