Northern Districts pair of Joe Carter and Brett Hampton broke the record for the most runs scored in an over in List-A cricket. Carter and Hampton took 43 runs off an over from Willem Ludick of Central District in a Ford fixture Trophy in Hamilton, overhauling Elton Chigumbura’s 39 runs off Alauddin Babu during a Dhaka Premier League match in 2013.

Chigumbura’s record was smashed in the 46th over of the innings in which Ludick conceded six sixes, one four and two no-balls. Hampton began the over with a four, which was followed by two sixes off two waist-high full tosses. Another six followed after which he took a single to bring Carter on strike. He pummelled the next three balls for sixes and that was it. The over eventually read: 4,6nb,6nb,6,1,6,6,6.

Carter remained unbeaten off 102 off 77 deliveries while Hampton scored 95 off 66 to take the Northern Districts to 313 for 7 in 50 overs. The pair added 178 runs in 21 overs for the sixth wicket, overtaking BJ Watling and Peter McGlashan’s then-record stand of 150.
