Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Punjab kings (PBKS) have had a great outing n the 2025 season so far, as they are at the top place with 19 points. They have played a total of 14 matches and won 9 of them, putting them at the top of the IPL standings. Now the Shreyas Iyer-led side is set to feature in the playoff stage after 11 long years of disappointment, which is because of the great contributions of all the players, the support staff and the head coach Ricky Ponting.
Ahead of the all-important playoff against Royal challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Ricky Ponting had an interview with Press Trust of India (PTI), where he was asked about his opinions on any player from PBKS joining the Indian team in the future. The Australian legend sure named players, but it was not one or two. Notably, Ponting named four of the team players whom he thinks can make to the national side in the upcoming time.
“There is four of them who can. You look at Priyansh Arya. He has been a revelation for us at the top of the order. I must have watched, I don’t know how many hours of video I watched on him going into the auction, but he was the one that I wanted to make sure that we got.” Ponting said while speaking to PTI.
Prabh (Prabhsimran Singh) is probably the obvious one when you talk about playing for India. Still only 24 years of age. I read somewhere the other day that he’s now got the most runs for an uncapped player in IPL history. (Nehal) Wadhera is someone that I think could play for India as well in the middle order. And Shashank (Singh), you’ve only got to look at the cold, hard numbers with him,” he added.
Punjab Kings are going to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru as the first match of the IPL 2025 playoffs. Notably, both the teams have 19 points in the table. This match is going to be held at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh.
