Indian Premier League (IPL) have certainly contributed in the vast improvement of fielding. Over the years we have witnessed some spectacular catches and this one has to be amongst the top. How many times have we heard that it’s a team game and team work can create wonders? This was a top example.Rajasthan Royal’s Tim Southee and Karun Nair took the aspect of catching to a new level when they combined to pull off a stunning catch, which surely merits to be called as one of the greatest ever.

The match was between Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) against Rajasthan Royals (RR) from the ongoing eighth edition of the IPL. RR had posted a challenging total of 163 and KXIP were almost outdone comprehensively by their counterparts’ bowling.

Seven balls remained and KXIP needed 32 to need and on strike was their skipper George Bailey. Batting on 24 from 17 balls, he struck one hard off the bowling of his Australian teammate James Faulkner. The ball hit the toe end of the bat, but still looked good for a maximum. Southee jumped at the deep mid-wicket boundary to pouch it with his right hand, lost his balance and just before stepping on to the other side of the rope, he threw it back to Karun Nair, who too dived across to complete the effort. It was a superb tag-team effort by the RR duo. A combination of impeccable athleticism and great presence of mind, not only saw the completion of an extra-ordinary catch but also set a new benchmark in fielding standards. In the end, it was a comfortable 26-run win for RR.
