Pakistan are expected to rest fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar for Thursday’s Group A match against Canada at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Shoaib has looked in good shape at the World Cup. He bowled a penetrative spell in their second match against Sri Lanka, accounting for in-form Mahela Jayawardene in the early stages and paving the way for a narrow 11-run victory.

Coach Waqar Younis said the team management is yet to decide on whether Shoaib would figure in Thursday’s game. “So far, we have not decided the team. We are thinking about it but I can’t give a confirmed answer until tomorrow,” he said at a pre-match news conference.
