Mohammed Rizwan has been urged to step down from the role of Pakistan’s white-ball captain after the team got eliminated from the 2025 edition of ICC Champions Trophy. The neighbouring nation is the defending champion, and are hosting an ICC event after nearly 30 years, but got knocked out of the tournament after New Zealand secured a 5-wicket win over Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Pakistan got defeated by New Zealand and India in their opening two matches of the Champions Trophy. The team is being criticised for the lack of quality game in the squad and slow display of their game at the stadiums.

Former Pakistan cricketer Sikander Bakht stated that Mohammed Rizwan was never the correct choice as the captain, since he does not know how to speak or express what he wants to convey. Bakht also stated that Babar was also never the right choice to be the captain.

“Firstly, Mohammad Rizwan should resign as the captain. Whenever he speaks, I am not able to understand what he says. A person who cannot speak or express himself, what sort of a captain would he be?” Bakht told Geo News.

“We have seen his captaincy on the field. He is a bad choice to be the captain. I said the same about Babar Azam as well,” he added.

Contracts to come to an end:
The former Pakistan cricketer stated that the central contracts for these players should be ended, and they should only be given a second chance once they start performing well again.

“We have to make changes. End their central contracts. Don’t give them central contracts till the team starts performing,” he said.

“There should be some performance. In corporate setup, you are given a task. If you don’t do it, you are asked to pack up and leave,” he added.

Pakistan is now going to face Bangladesh in a Group A match in Rawalpindi on Thursday. However, the match is going to be of no such significance as both the teams have already been knocked out from the race to the semifinals.
