Azhar Ali and Misbah-ul-Haq fell in quick succession as Pakistan lost two wickets to stumble to 11 for six from 58.1 overs, with their second innings lead being only of 29 runs. Rangana Herath and Dilruwan Perera claimed a wicket each to put Sri Lanka back in command of the first Test.

Azhar and Misbah added 56 runs for the fifth wicket, and they steadied the Pakistan innings as they lost way too many wickets in the first session. Pakistan resumed the play on day five at 4/1.

Earlier at lunch, Pakistan produced a spineless show with the bat to crawl to a total of 66 for four against Sri Lanka, at lunch on the final day of the first Test match at Galle. Misbah-ul-Haq was unbeaten on seven and Azhar Ali consumed as many as 89  deliveries to score his 18 not out. Pakistan still trail by a further 16 runs in the second innings.

Resuming the day’s play at 4/1, Pakistan lost their nightwatchman Saeed Ajmal soon. The tailender was impatient at the crease and kept going for his strokes. At one point, Ahmed Shehzad even walked down to the striker’s end to give Ajmal some suggestions. However, the next ball off Dhammika Prasad, Ajmal gave a simple catch to Sri Lankan wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella.
