The season two of the much-hyped domestic Twenty20 (T20) tournament of Pakistan, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2017 gets underway from February 9. Five teams are set to contest this tournament, as the matches will be played in United Arab Emirates (UAE). The final of the tournament will be held in Lahore but it remains subject to the security approval. During the PSL Player Draft in October 2016, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi said that the final could be contested in Lahore, if PCB gets the security clearance. The PCB also stated that their intention was to play the final in Lahore, with the players of the franchises being flown in and out of the country in short span of time. Also, the PCB stated that the overseas players, who are feeling unsafe to travel to Pakistan during the final, would be replaced, possibly with Pakistan players, with a new Player Draft, which could be held just ahead of the final stages of the tournament. During the player draft in October 2016, about 414 players, that included both Pakistan and international players, were separated into five different categories. Each of the franchises were given a maximum cap of seven overseas players in the side, while the total team could have about 20 players. At the end of the draft, it was calculated that 100 players were picked during the draft, which included 35 overseas players.

Note: The points table was updated after Match 20, the top 4 teams have qualified for the play-offs.

The teams are scheduled to play each of their opponents twice in a round-robin format. Following the conclusion of the group stage, the top four teams would qualify for the play-offs stage. The edition of the PSL will also witness rules and regulations penned by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The group stage would see two points being awarded for a win and a point for a draw. In case the match is a tie, a super over will come into play to decide the winner.
