It was not the ideal opening to the Boxing Day Test that the fans would have hoped for. Rains denied Australia’s march at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Monday. Pakistan, after electing to bat, got off to a slow start but ended the day at 142 for 4. Pakistan, who had almost won the first Test at The Gabba by chasing down 490, will look forward to a better show. The live cricket streaming of the match will be available online on Hotstar, while the live telecast of the match will be available on Star Sports 2 and Star Sports HD2. In Australia, the live coverage of the game will be available on BT Sport Europe.

Australia will be happy with their bowling exploits on what seems to be a batting wicket at the iconic MCG. Pakistan lost both their stalwarts, Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq, but Azhar Ali held for with 66 at stumps. Accompanying him was Asad Shafiq, on 4. Pakistan will at least eye 350 to put Australia under some kind of pressure. Their first-innings collapse had seen the back of Pakistan at Brisbane. The first Test had witnessed a close fight between both sides. Australia had posted 429 in the first innings and had bowled out Pakistan for 142. The hosts then declared at 202 for 3 and Pakistan, chasing 490, were bowled out for 450.

Australia will look forward to continue their good work with the ball on second day and not allow Pakistan to slip away to a comfort zone. Jackson Bird was the most successful bowler with 2 wickets to his name on Day One at MCG. More importantly, he was the bowler who got Younis and Misbah. However, the first wicket of the day was claimed by Nathan Lyon and the crowd played a role in that too. The atmosphere is set and so are the teams, if weather permits, we are looking ahead to another fascinating day’s play.
