Tom Latham, the New Zealand opener, has brought up his 1st Test century on Day 3 of the opening Test against Pakistan. He’s looked assured in unfamiliar conditions against the Pakistani spinners. Can he hold out for longer? New Zealand need him to score big if they are to go past Pakistan’s mammoth 566.

Latham made his debut against India earlier this year at Wellington. His father Rod made a hundred against Zimbabwe. The son looks compact at the top, which is a good sign for New Zealand cricket. What would please is that he’s got these runs in conditions in which he’s never played in before. He’s been very resolute here.
