Delhi pacer Parvinder Awana’s exceptional performance in the Ranji Trophy saw him finish as the fourth highest wicket-taker with 28 scalps in six matches.

Impressed by his showing, the Kings XI Punjab have signed him for the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

This is Awana’s first stint in the IPL and the 25-year-old feels it is his good showing in the Vijay Hazare limited overs tournament that has helped him.

Awana is Delhi’s top wicket- taker with 12 scalps in four matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

“I am currently the third highest wicket-taker in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and this good show in the limited overs format helped me get a place in the Kings XI Punjab team,” Awana told Mail Today on Friday.

The player is currently in the ‘B’ slab (Rs.20 lakh) of the payment structure of the tournament.

Awana hopes he will be selected in the playing eleven, which has the likes of Praveen Kumar.

“At the start of the season, I focused on swing as well as my fitness. Those two aspects have really worked in my favour this season,” he said.

“This will be my first season in the IPL though I had given a trial for Kolkata Knight Riders last year. My first aim is to do well in the camp that will most probably be held in Chandigarh next month. If I can continue my form, I am confident I will be in the playing eleven of the team.”

Kings XI have also signed Punjab middle-order batsman Gurkeerat Mann, along with Awana.
