Persistent rain at the Just Cricket Academy Ground in Bengaluru led to the first match of the Duleep Trophy between India Blue and India Green to be abandoned without Blue completing their first innings after being put into bat. Both teams were awarded one point each after no play was possible on the last three days.

In a rain affected opening day, Blue were tottering at 112 for 6 in 49 overs, which unfortunately, was the only cricketing action in the three days.

Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has been in good touch recently, top-scored with 30 off 63 balls – his innings decorated with two sixes and three boundaries. Ankit Bawne was unbeaten on 21 off 103 balls.

For Green, Rajasthan left-arm fast bowler Tanveer Ul-Haq carried his form from last season – in which he pocketed 51 wickets in the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 – taking the opening duo of Gaikwad and Snell Patel. Bengal pacer Ishan Porel then ran through the middle order.

The 20-year-old pacer’s first wicket was Blue captain Shubman Gill, who has been in phenomenal form with India A on their tour of West Indies. Gill departed for just 6. Porel then sent Anmolpreet Singh and Jalaj Saxena to finish with figures of 3/26.

Ankit Rajpoot, who shared the new ball with Tanveer, took one wicket. Rahul Chahar, fresh off a T20I debut for India, bowled just five overs.

India Blue will now face India Red in the next match at Alur from August 23.

Brief scores: India Blue 112 for 6 (Gaikwad 30, Porel 3-26) drew with India Green
