Jason Hughes, Phil Hughes‘ older brother scored 63 runs on his return to Sydney grade cricket on Saturday. This was the first match for Jason Hughes after the demise of Phil Hughes that shocked the world.
The number 63 has become highly significant in cricketing circles, ever since the tragedy, as it was the score Phil Hughes was batting on before he was struck by a bouncer that eventually proved fatal, reported The New Zealand Herald. Hence it was fitting that Jason Hughes, got out on exactly 63, batting for his team Mosman against Sydney.
Jason Hughes wasn’t aware of his score when he got out on 63, the Mosman team officials reported. Many tributes to Phil Hughes in the cricketing world laid special emphasis on the number 63, including a 63 second applause to start off the first Test between India and Australia.
