âIt is my sad duty to inform you that a short time ago Phillip Hughes passed away,â Australian team doctor Peter Brukner said in a statement. âHe never regained consciousness following his injury on Tuesday. He was not in pain before he passed and was surrounded by his family and close friends.â
ICC Chief Executive David Richardson said the whole of cricketing fraternity was devastated by the news, as reported by PTI. âHe was a naturally gifted player who entertained many with his attacking approach to the game. All those who play, have played or are in any way connected to the game are devastated by the news. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy at this difficult time,â said Richardson.
