Phillip Hughes’ funeral: Rajeev Shukla faces criticism after erroneous tweet

Rajeev Shukla made a blunder on micro-blogging site Twitter, mentioning Phillip Hughes as ‘Huge’ when he wrote in to offer his condolences to the Australian cricketer.

Earlier on Wednesday, Phillip Hughes was bid farewell in an emotional gathering of supporters and friends at his hometown of Macksville in New South Wales. The funeral was telecast live on various channels and was also displayed on big screen across various cricket grounds in Australia. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Murali Vijay, Duncan Fletcher and Ravi Shastri represented the Indian team at Macksville. Australian cricketers Michael Clarke, Aaron Finch and Tom Cooper were selected as the pall-bearers along with Hughes’ father Greg.

The funeral was also attended by Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten while cricketing greats Brian Lara, Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath were also present to bid farewell to the Australian batsmen. Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi also offered his condolences to Hughes’ as he wrote on Twitter, “Heart-rending funeral in Australia. Phil Hughes, we will miss you. Your game & exuberance won you fans all over! RIP.”
