Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Graeme Smith, Mahela Jayawardene and Andrew Strauss among the cricketers who were hosted by David Cameron at 10 Downing Street in a welcome reception ahead of the Twenty20 (T20) match at The Oval on Thursday as part of a charity event called Cricket for Heroes – the first international fundraiser for Help for Heroes, the charity organisation based in the United Kingdom. The dinner was on the eve of the 2015 Rugby World Cup. Smith shared a snap with Sehwag and Damien Martyn, that was photo-bombed by former English cricketer Strauss, on social media, captioned, “Met prime minister with some cricket legends, photo bomb from the head boy :)#straussy.” READ: MS Dhoni joins Virender Sehwag in Cricket for Heroes charity match at The Oval

While Strauss will captain Help for Heroes XI including Sehwag and Dhoni, New Zealand skipper Brendon MCCullum will lead the likes of Brain Lara, Mathew Hayden and Smith in Rest of World XI. The match is being played to raise money for the charity which looks after sick, wounded or seriously injured soldiers and their families – with up to 30 per cent being allocated to overseas charities in conjunction with the invited players.

Dhoni and Sehwag are the only Indians who will be part of the charity match. “I am delighted to be joining so many cricketing superstars at the Kia Oval on Thursday September 17 and supporting such a worthy cause. I’ve always enjoyed playing cricket in England and I would urge all sports fans to support Help for Heroes on September 17 and watch some truly world class performers in action,” Dhoni said recently in an interview.
