PSL should feature Indian players, feels Javed Miandad

Former Pakistan cricketer Javed Miandad on Tuesday urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to invite Indian players for the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The inaugural Pakistani Twenty20 league, which is set to be held in Qatar or UAE early next year, is along the same lines as other T20 leagues such as the Indian Premier League (IPL), which has currently banned players from Pakistan due to tensions between the two governments. Miandad, who urged the board not to go for any retaliatory moves, also urged the Pakistan board to make the best arrangements possible for the league to be success, as the country’s ‘prestige was at stake’. “Nothing should go off beam. It is a matter of our country’s reputation and nothing should go wrong. Each interested player should first sign a contract as backing out at the last moment would bring a bad name,” Miandad was quoted as saying according to a report on The Tribune.

The legendary Pakistan batsman added that all foreign players who sign up for the league should be made to sign a contract first rather than confirming verbally, in order to prevent any cases of last-minute back-outs.

The league is expected to take place during the months of February-March next year, with the board yet to finalise between UAE and Qatar as the final venue. The tournament will comprise of five teams — franchises based on the cities of Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Peshawar and Quetta. Former cricketers Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja have been roped in as the brand ambassadors of the league, with no commitments on the franchise names, broadcasters and the player draft.
