R Ashwin and team accused of ball-tampering! TNPL demands instant evidence

Ravichandran Ashwin and his team Dindigul Dragons have been recently accused of ball-tampering in the ongoing Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). These allegations have been from Seicham Madurai Panthers, who have been asked to present evidence for the “post-facto and speculative” charges by the event’s organisers.

The Dragons were accused by the Panthers for tampering the ball by using towels that were “treated with chemicals” during a match on June 14. However, it is understood that all these ‘chemically treated’ towels were provided by the state cricket association to wipe the ball in case it gets wet. The drying of the ball was done in front of the upires.

Considering this situation, the TNPS has asked the Panthers to provide them with proof of tampering as soon as possible in order to “substantiate” their charges.

“The allegation appears to be post-facto, speculative in nature and based solely on internal team communications without supporting evidence,” TNPL CEO Prasanna Kannan wrote in his mail, which is in PTI’s possession, to the Panthers.

Prasanna Kannan also noted that neither the on-field umpires nor did the match referee file any sort of complaint during or after the match. It has now been learnt that the TNPL is most likely going to discuss this issue by forming an internal committee.

All these events started when Panthers’ CEO Mahesh S wrote a letter to TNPL that claimed this “blatant” ball-tampering by the defending champions Dragons. In the letter, Mahesh also asked the TNPL top-brass to look into the source of towels.
