Australia were 88 for six against Sri Lanka when rain stopped play in the sixth one-day international of the triangular series at Syndey on Friday.

David Hussey (15) and Clint McKay (0) were at the crease when heavens opened up after the 26th over.

Persistent rain meant the match was reduced to 41 overs per-side.

Earlier, skipper in-charge Ricky Ponting won the toss and elected to bat.

Sri Lanka’s sprightly cricketers will look to end their winless streak as they take on an Australia sans talismanic skipper Michael Clarke in the tri-series ODI.

Lying at the bottom of the points table, the closest Sri Lanka got to a win in the series was the nerve-wrecking tie against India in their last match.

Brief Score: Australia 88 for 6 in 26 overs (D Hussey 15*; MF Maharoof 2 for 18) vs Sri Lanka.
