Pakistan on Sunday survived a scare before pulling off a narrow 21-run victory over Bangladesh and skipper Misbah-ul-Haq said his team needs to learn from their mistakes and lift their game if they have to threaten India and Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup.

Misbah blamed his batsmen for not putting enough runs after having such a brilliant start to their campaign opener at the Shere Bangla National Stadium here.

“It was tough, we should have got 300. Again, we just messed it up. The guys are not learning from their mistakes and we need to rectify these mistakes and lift our performance or else we will struggle against India and Sri Lanka,” Misbah said after Pakistan bowled out Bangladesh for 241 after posting 262-8.

“The pitch was absolutely perfect for batting, no spin, nothing for the fast bowlers but again the bowlers did good for us. The bowlers are winning games for us for the last year and a half, but we need to support them,” he added.

His counterpart Wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim said they came very close to winning and can take a lot of positive out of their performance today.

“We were really close, I thought we came back well in our bowling. Our batsmen did a good job at the start, the most important was Nasir (Hossain)’s wicket at the end. We just couldn’t finish well. We are not winning most of the times after getting into such situations,” he said.

Mohammad Hafeez was adjudged the Man of the Match for his two wickets and 89 runs at the top and the allrounder said he worked on his batting a lot and it paid off today.

“I was not having a great time in the last series, so I am very happy with this effort. I worked with my batting coach, I was just thinking of spending more time at the crease and it worked,” he said.

“(Nasir) Jamshed really took the pressure off me earlier on. It was important that we give a good start, of course we couldn’t finish well adn we will work on that. My bowling is working for me and I will keep the good work,” he added. (PTI)
