The Rajasthan Royals (RR) created a stir even before the IPL 2026 auction by trading longtime captain Sanju Samson for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. As RR look to address their long-standing issues of a weak lower order and the lack of genuine all-rounders, the trade marks a bold strategic change.
Sam Curran adds both batting and bowling depth alongside Jadeja, while Donovan Ferreira, accquired from the Delhi Capitals, strengthens the finishing options and offers versatility as a wicketkeeper. Despite these high-profile moves, the Royals will look to plug a few remaining gaps at the auction scheduled for Tuesday in Abu Dhabi.
The retention of 16 players reflects the franchise’s faith in a stable, title-winning core. Armed with a purse of Rs 16.05 crore. The team can now add nine more players – one from overseas and eight from India – bringing their squad to the maximum size of 25.
