In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 game played between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders, Karun Nair and Sanu Samson set a solid base with some fine stroke-play during the middle overs of the match. Both batsmen were able to play strokes on both sides of the wicket. It was crystal clear that the wicket is on the slower side and bowlers who tend to bowl quicker through the air will be hit around. Nair was finally stumped off the bowling of slow left-arm orthodox, Shakib Al Hasan.
Kolkata didn’t help their cause by tending to bowl varying lengths on the wicket. It is always important to get your length right, especially in the shortest format of the game. Earlier, Gautam Gambhir won the toss and elected to field. There was a tinge of grass on the wicket which surprised many, but the track has played true till the completion of 12 overs. It was Ajinkya Rahane who showcased some fine stroke-play by playing shots with equanimity, balance and poise. Once he was run out, Samson and Nair took over by doing well.
