Rajasthan Royals (RR) vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK) IPL 2014: Suresh Raina falls cheaply

Apr 23, 2014

Suresh Raina was caught by Dhawal Kulkarni off Rajat Bhatia in the ninth over as Chennai Super Kings slipped to 64 for three in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. Raina scored only four runs off the nine balls he faced during his stay at the crease.

Pravin Tambe was called upon to bowl the seventh over, and he responded by bowling a very good over in which he gave away only two runs. Raina was unable to put the leg-spinner away. Tambe bowled intelligently and mixed it up well.

The eighth over was bowled by Stuart Binny, and he was greeted with a swat over mid wicket by Dwayne Smith. Smith brought up his fifty with the six, before holing out on the off side going for another slog off the very next ball. He was dismissed for exactly 50. Faf du Plessis came in at No 4, but was at the non-striker’s end to begin with, the batsmen having crossed while the catch was taken. Raina had a scare off the fifth ball when he miscued a pull shot, but the ball landed safely.

Raina came in to bat at No 3 for CSK in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 match against the Rajasthan Royals at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

Earlier, Brendon McCullum was dismissed in the sixth over as Chennai Super Kings reached 51 for one in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

Dwayne Smith hit the second six of the innings when he smashed Tim Southee over long-off in the fourth over of the match. Brendon McCullum had a close shave as he tried stealing a close single through the mid-on. Steven Smith, the fielder at that position hit the wickets directly but McCullum had made it in on time.

Smith continued the good work after the dismissal of McCullum as he as many as four hit consecutive boundaries off James Faulkner in the sixth over of the match. Earlier in the game, Kulkarni bowled started off the fourth over well, bowling three dot balls in a row to McCullum. The seamer mixed up slower balls with his normal deliveries to good effect, as McCullum failed to get the ball away. Smith was then hit on the helmet by another slower bouncer off the fifth ball.

It was a lovely over from Kulkarni, with just two scored off the last ball. A  few balls were hit in the air. None of them went to fielders, however. Smith exploded in the third over, smashing James Faulkner over long on for a huge six. During the toss, Rajasthan Royals’ captain Shane Watson won the toss and elected to field. Kane Richardson was benched by the Royals, and they brought in New Zealand pacer Tim Southee.
