Darren Sammy-powered Rajshahi Kings reached a respectable total of 154 for the loss of 8 wickets in match No. 28 of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2016-17 against Khulna Titans. Winning the toss, the Rajshahi Kings decided to bat first but their batsmen failed to get going. Irresponsible batting from the top order of the Kings resulted in the team ending in a precarious position. But coming in at No. 6, the Rajshahi Kings skipper Sammy scored an unbeaten 71 from just 34 balls, laced with 4 boundaries and 5 huge sixes. Sammy displayed some monstrous hitting towards the death which helped his team post a respectable total in this competition.

Earlier in the game, Kings openers Mominul Haque and Junaid Siddique departed in quick succession after proving a sedate start. Mominul was the first one to depart when the team had 26 runs on the board; sent back by the Titans skipper Mahmudullah. Junaid tried to go for a maximum and but edged the ball into the wicketkeeper s gloves after hitting Shafiul Islam for a six over the bowler s head.

Sabbir Rahman and Samit Patel tried to stabilise the innings but could not keep up with the scoring rate. These two departed for 16 runs each, with the Englishman being the slower one among the two in run-scoring. Rahman played total 18 balls for his 16 runs while Samit took 23 balls to score the same amount of runs and if this was not enough, Umar Akmal failed, scoring 9 runs.

At one point, the Kings had put up just 66 runs on the board and had lost their top 4 batsmen when their skipper walked out to bat. With not much batting left at the other end, Sammy took the proceedings into his hands and took the attack to the opposition. He took some time initially to get himself eased into the situation, and once he got into his stride, Sammy made sure that no bowler from the Titans was spared.

Kevon Cooper was the best bowler for the Khulna Titans as he finished with the figures of 2 for 31 while Islam had to suffer the wrath of Sammy towards the end, finishing with 53 runs in his 4 overs.
