Rampant Australia seal the series against Sri Lanka with dominating 9-wicket victory
Australia decimate Sri Lanka, win Test series by 2-0
Australia won the second Test against Sri Lanka by 9 wickets in Galle on Sunday to sweep the series 2-0. Set a target of 75 to win, the Baggy Greens lost only Travis Head and cruised to an easy victory before lunch on day 4.
After the hosts resumed the day on 211/8, they weren’t able to hold on for long enough and soon got bundled out for 231 runs,
Spinners Nathan Lyon and Matthew Kuhnemann took four wickets each for Australia. The duo spun a web around the hosts, making full use of a dust bowl tailor-made for turn.
Both Kuhnemann and Lyon performed brilliantly throughout the series and the latter even finished as the highest wicket-taker of the series with 16 scalps.
The match turned out to be especially special for Australia skipper Steve Smith, who not only scored his 36th century in the longest format during Australia’s first innings, but also bagged another massive record.
The Australian skipper entered an elite club, becoming only the fifth player in Test history to complete 200 catches alongside the likes of Rahul Dravid, Joe Root, Mahela Jayawardene, and Jacques Kallis.
