Sri Lanka made 355 in their first innings, after winning the toss on Day One, due to a double-century stand between Dinesh Chandimal and Dhananjaya de Silva. Both the batsmen scored centuries and with their bowlers coming back into the match and not allowing the visitors to take a big lead have given the team a good chance to comeback into the match and whitewash the three-Test series.
