West Bengal, who resumed on 274 for eight were bowled out for 317 on Day Two in their first innings of the 2013-14 Ranji Trophy encounter against Railways at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Anureet Singh took four-wicket haul for the Railways team. Railways responded by amassing 233 for five at the end of the day’s play with Mahesh Rawat essaying a fine century. He remained not out on 105. Arindam Ghosh contributed 78.

Earlier on Day 1, Sudip Chatterjee and Abhimanyu Easwaran, showed maturity with a brilliant 163-run partnership before another familiar middle-order collapse saw West Bengal end the day at 274 for eight. Left-hander Sudip (96) played a responsible knock and was ably supported by right-hander Easwaran (65) as they resurrected the innings.

From a good position of 166 for two, they crumbled to 233 for eight. In fact, in the middle-order, only reserve Test specialist Wriddhiman Saha (60 not out) managed good score as he added 41 runs for the undefeated ninth wicket stand with Ashoke Dinda (17 not out).

Brief scores:

West Bengal 317 (Abhimanyu Easwaran 65, Sudip Chatterjee 96; Anureet Singh 4 for 88) lead Railways 233 for 5 (Arindam Ghosh 78, Mahesh Rawat 105*;  Ashok Dinda 3 for 83) by 84 runs.
