Delhi emerged the better side in the Ranji Trophy 2014-15 quarter-final encounter at DRIEMS Ground, Tangi, Cuttack, bowling out Mumbai for 156 in 81 overs on Day One. Things did not look good for Mumbai from the very onset, but they still managed to recover somewhat to 75 for three. Then a collapse followed, and Mumbai were reduced to 102 for eight before the last two wickets added 54.

Opening bowling, Sumit Narwal claimed the first wicket for Delhi; Parvinder Awana, Pradeep Sangwan, and Manan Sharma all chipped in, and Rajat Bhatia returned remarkable figures of 12-9-3-1, keeping Mumbai on a strong leash and allowing bowlers to go all out at the other end.

Aditya Tare, Mumbai’s captain, wicketkeeper, and opening batsman, stood firm, scoring a patient 121-ball 39 before he was fourth out. It was Tare’s dismissal that triggered the collapse. Nikhil Patil was the only one to put up some fight, while Harmeet Singh (11 from 47) and Balwinder Sandhu (three from 29) provided ample support. Patil eventually remained unbeaten with a 116-ball 54 with a four and two sixes.

Elsewhere, in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2015 auctions, Narwal was picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for INR 10 lakhs.
