Ranji Trophy 2015-16: Kerala steady at 158/2 vs J&K in Group C match at Srinagar

Srinagar: Kerala made a positive start after Jammu and Kashmir posted 330 all out in their Group C Ranji Trophy cricket match here today. Starting on their overnight score of 247 for seven, the hosts rode on senior batsman Bandeep Singh’s 82 and his 120-run partnership for the eighth wicket with Waseem Raza (73) before being bowled out in 106.5 overs at the Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium. Bandeep hit 10 fours in his 211-ball knock, while Raza found the fence eight times while 106 balls. Vice-captain Parveez Rasool had made 54 yesterday. Karaparambil Monish was the most successful bowler for Kerala, picking up 3/63. In reply, Kerala ended the second day at a solid 158 for two in 68 overs. Opener V A Jagadeesh was run out after scoring 69, with the help of six fours. At stumps, Rohan Prem was batting on 67 after facing 187 balls, and giving him company was Sachin Baby (5).

Earlier, Vice-captain Parvez Rasool and senior batsman Bandeep Singh scored half-centuries as Jammu and Kashmir reached 247 for seven against Kerala on a controversy-hit opening day of their Ranji Trophy group league match. At the start of the day, there was lot of confusion as two warring factions of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) named two separate squad with former Delhi player Mithun Manhas being named captain in one while the other team named Rasool as the captain. In the end, the Manhas-led team took the field with Rasool as his deputy. J&K got off to a magnificent start in the previous season, defeating Mumbai in the very first game of their campaign. They would hope to start this campaign off on a similar note. Sanju Samson will be one of Kerala’s key players this time and has also been entrusted to lead the side this time.
