Ranji Trophy 2015-16: Maharashtra go to stumps at 235/5 against Odisha on Day 1

Maharashtra finished Day One at a competent 235 for five against Odisha in the second round of Ranji Trophy 2015-16. The Maharashtra innings was scripted by a fine knock of 74 by opener Harshad Khadiwale. There were further contributions lower down the order namely by Ankit Bawane and Rahul Tripathi. Bawane was bowled by Suryakant Pradhan for 60, while Tripathi remained unconquered at 41. There were impressive performances in the bowling department too. Pradhan took the wicket of Gugale apart from that of Bawane. Biplap Samantray starred in the bowling department with three crucial wickets of Khadiwale, Motwani and Kedar Jadhav. Jadhav was dismissed for a mere two runs as was opener Gugale. Motwani was involved in a valuable partnership with Khadiwale, but was dismissed for 22.

Add Cricket Country as a Preferred Source

Maharashtra will be quite happy with their effort on Day One, but Odisha has the opportunity to comeback in the game if they pick early wickets on the second day. Chirag Khurana scored an unbeaten 18 and is capable of a big knock. It could be said that the match is quite evenly placed at this stage and the following proceedings will be very interesting. For Maharashtra it will be important to add more runs and the aim should be to get to at least 350, which will be a highly challenging first innings total. Hence it is prudent for Odisha to quickly break the ongoing partnership to expose the tail.
