Chattisgarh’s Aniket Khare took his side to commendable position on Day 1 of Round 2 of Ranji Trophy 2016-17, as his side ended up at 261 for 4 against Andhra. After winning the toss, Chattisgarh elected to bat, but saw collapse of their opening batsmen Sahil Gupta and Rishabh Tiwari. However, the opening batsman Tiwari failed to go all guns-blazing as he was dismissed for a run. Gupta stayed in the crease for a while and built steady partnership along with Khare of 67 runs. After the wicket of Gupta, Khare could only manage to build some momentum with Ashutosh Singh, who was later gone for 14. The major chunk of runs came from the fifth wicket stand came from Khare and Abhimanyu Chauhan who is playing on 73. Khare also remained unbeaten on 136 at the end of the day. As for Andhra, it was Cheepurapalli Stephen, who got the opening batsmen to keep Andhra on safer position in the first session. Chattisgarh had a comfortable victory in the first round of Ranji Trophy and are at the top of Group C points table, while Andhra were unfortunate as their match ended up in a draw.
