As Day One’s play of the Round 3 of Ranji Trophy 2016-17 end, Bengal put up a good score and expect to end their batting with good runs on the board as they face Punjab. The entire team performed with the bat contributing their bit which resulted in a big total at stumps of Day One of the match. Sayan Shekhar Mandal scored century while both Sudip Chatterjee and Agniv Pan scored half-centuries to help their side take the score to 332 at stumps of Day One and they still have 5 wickets in hand. Playing at Luhnu Cricket ground, Bilaspur, Punjab won the toss and put Bengal to bat. Before the Bengal openers could build a good partnership, AR Eswaran was sent back for an lbw by Sandeep Sharma in the first over for the score of 8 runs. Mandal, along with next in Chatterjee, took things forward for the team. Chatterjee went on to score 51 and took Bengal’s score past 100 before he was dismissed off a Vinay Choudhary delivery. Pan was the next man in and helped the side get to their 250. His 70 runs were also a crucial contribution towards the team’s score. Sayan Shekhar Mandal departed for 135 while captain Manoj Tiwary later added a good 45 as Bengal ended with 332 for 5 at stumps.

Among the Punjab bowlers, Sandeep and Vinay were the most successful as they bagged a couple of wickets each while Manpreet Singh Grewal took one.
