Kerala were on top of Hyderabad as they ended their Day 1 of Round 3 of Ranji Trophy 2016-17 at 223 for 4. Kerala won the toss and elected to bat first. Their opening batsmen did not flair well as V Jagadeesh was gone for 5 while Bhavin Thakkar and Rohan Prem found some balance in the middle to add above 50-run partnership. After Thakkar s dismissal, Prem and wicketkeeper Sanju Samson continued their innings but Samson was dismissed for 15. However, it was Sachin Baby and Jalaj Saxena who remained unbeatable with their fifties. Kerala have depth in their batting line and that showed through their performance through the day. The runs came slow, but the batsmen found their way to get runs in a consistent way. Hyderabad tried their best to get wickets at regular intervals, but ultimately it was Kerala who found their way back through the day. Ravi Kiran, CV Milind, Mehdi Hasan and Akash Bhandari got a single wicket at the end of the day. Their aim for the next day will be to bowl out Kerala to begin with their first innings. The first wicket to be taken was V Jagadeesh in just 3.3 overs. The innings went strong as the second wicket fell only in the 36th over. After the next 10 overs, the other wickets kept tumbling.

Hasan was the bowler who conceded maximum runs at the end of the day. But it was Saxena who smashed Hyderabad bowlers with his boundaries. He secured 11 boundaries and is playing on 58.
