Maharashtra ended Day One of Round 4, Group B of the Ranji Trophy 2016-17 on 280 for 3 against Rajasthan. Naushad Shaikh hit his maiden First-Class ton in only his third match for Maharashtra to put his team in a good position at the end of the day. Ankit Bawane too carried on his good run of form to score 83 and put n 177 for the third wicket with Shaikh. Shaikh and Rahul Tripathi are the two unbeaten batsmen for Maharashtra with scores of 118 and 19 respectively. Skipper Pankaj Singh was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures 2 for 38. TM Ul Haq picked up the other wicket to fall.

After losing the first game to Jharkhand, Maharashtra managed to secure draws in the next couple of matches, first against Delhi and then against Saurashtra and as a result have four points from their three matches so far. Rajasthan on the other hand have won one, lost one and drew the other game and therefore have eight matches from three matches so far. It is Maharashtra, who need to up the ante in this game and secure a win as they currently lie just above Assam in the Group B table. Rajasthan on the other hand will hope that they can carry on their good performance from their previous match against Assam, which they win by an innings and 8 runs. However in this match, Rajasthan still have a lot of work to do and will look to bowl Maharashtra out soon on Day Two.

It was Maharashtra, who had won the toss and elected to bat first.

Brief Scores:
