Haryana put up a fine batting performance as they ended Day One of Round 6 of Ranji Trophy 2016-17 at 295 for 5 against Jammu and Kashmir. Nitin Saini gave the perfect start to the Haryana batting adding 90 runs on board. However, he was unfortunate to miss out on his century by 10 runs with Aamir Aziz grabbing the right target. Shubham Rohilla and Chaitanya Bishnoi were gone cheaply, shacking the top-order of Haryana. Jammu and Kashmir won the toss and elected to field first. If Haryana had few unsung heroes to their rescue, Jammu and Kashmir also had their time for most part of the day with their ace bowler Pervez Rasool bagging three wickets at the end of the day. Some back-to-back wickets from Rasool in form of Rohilla and Bishnoi, set the tone for Jammu and Kashmir early on. But the tides changed when the middle-order proved to be the saviour for Haryana. Shivam Chauhan tried to compliment Saini, but he was grabbed by Rohit Sharma for 17.

Since then the game belonged to Rohit Sharma of Haryana and Paliwal until the last session. Haryana are high on confidence lying at the top of the Group C table with 16 points while Jammu and Kashmir are well below the table with 10 points and want to make complete use of this opportunity to take the top slot.

Brief Scores:

Haryana 295 for 5 (Nitin Saini 90, Rajat Paliwal 99*, Rohit Sharma 51; Pervez Rasool 3 for 43) vs Jammu and Kashmir
