Baroda batted on for 155 overs against Gujarat before calling it quits in the Group A match of Ranji Trophy 2016-17 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. Baroda put up 544 for 8, the highlight of which was a career-best 142 (308 balls, 20 fours) from opener Aditya Waghmode. Deepak Hooda scored 118 as well (160 balls, 20 fours) as Kedar Devdhar and Swapnil Singh both crossed the 60-mark. In fact, the only Baroda batsman to miss out on a double-figure score was captain Irfan Pathan, who perished for a duck. Yusuf Pathan smashed his way to a 7-ball 18, all of which came in boundaries. The other pair of brothers, Krunal and Hardik Pandya, got 23 and 47 respectively.

Resuming the day on 285 for 2, Baroda were in no real hurry till the very end, when Pinal Shah and Gagandeep Singh joined hands with Swapnil in a flurry of boundaries. Clearly their intent was to bat only once in the match. For Gujarat, Akshar Patel had 3 for 136 and Rujul Bhatt 2 for 39.

Gujarat were asked to bat an hour before stumps. Samit Gohel and Priyank Panchal batted out 15 overs for 34 runs without a loss of a wicket.

Brief scores:

Baroda 544 for 8 decl. (Kedar Devdhar 65, Aditya Waghmode 142, Deepak Hooda 118, Hardik Pandya 47, Swapnil Singh 66*; Akshar Patel 3 for 136) lead Gujarat 34 for no loss by 510 runs.
