The Day Two of Ranji Trophy Group C fixture between Kerala and Himachal Pradesh took an exciting turn after Kerala spinners ruled the roost. Kerala, who were bundled out for 248 in their first innings, were potentially placed in a situation where they would have conceded the all-important lead. However, their spinners, led by Jalaj Saxena, had other ideas. The professional player, who signed up with the team this year after quitting his team Madhya Pradesh, took a five-for to leave Himachal tottering at 8 for 198. Along with him, the other professional player Iqbal Abdulla, who has joined the team after quitting Mumbai, also picked up a wicket while Monish Kareparambil also picked up a wicket.

The spinners thus shared 7 out of the 8 wickets to fall while the remaining wicket went to Sandeep Warrier. Only Prashant Chopra (60) could show some resistance for Himachal. Earlier, Sachin Baby s 61 and Sanju Samson s 47 guided Kerala to 248. Day Three of the match will be exciting to watch as it will be interesting to see whether Kerala can get the remaining wickets early and take the lead or Himachal tail wags and gets them another 50 odd runs.

Kerala resumed their first innings at 163 for 4 but were all out for 248 with Sachin Baby top-scoring with an agonisingly slow 61 which came from 209 balls. None of the other Kerala batsmen could contribute with substantial scores. Saxena then led the Kerala bowling charge to restrict Himachal to 198 for 8 at stumps. Himachal now trail by 50 runs with two first innings wickets in hand.

Opener Prashant Chopra was the main contribute for Himachal with a 79-ball 60 while none of his colleagues could make a substantial contribution.

Brief scores:

Kerala 248 (Sachin Baby 61, Sanju Samson 47; Rishi Dhawan 4 for 66) against Himachal Pradesh 198 for 8 (Prashant Chopra 60, Rishi Dhawan 28; Jalaj Saxena 5 for 53)
